Regional On-Scene Commanders (ROSC) Course, Auckland 2014

ROSC Kerri Morgan, Louise Chilvers, Graeme Finlayson and Hayley Pearson attended the Maritime New Zealand Regional On-Scene Commander (ROSC) course in Auckland in June 2014.

The ROSC is in charge of leading the response to a Tier 2, regional level, oil spill. The course was an opportunity for our three new team members to network with regional oil spill response commanders from New Zealand and Australia. The lectures and exercises helped to build upon their knowledge of the oil spill response process and also gave them hands-on experience as wildlife advisors.

They finished the course far more prepared and confident in their ability to effectively perform in their oiled wildlife response roles in the event of an oil spill. These training courses are an excellent opportunity for the Wildbase Oil Response team to work with Maritime New Zealand and aid in training of future On Scene Commanders in the wildlife aspect of an oil spill response.
