About the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing

Welcome to the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing and our wide array of programmes in communication management, journalism studies, marketing, marketing communication, and public relations. All of these are available on campus in Manawatu and Wellington , and by extramural study (distance learning). Most programmes are available in Albany.

Within these programmes are focused learning opportunities such as in advertising and promotion, business communication, consumer behaviour, cross-cultural communication, investigative reporting, marketing research, media law and ethics, media skills, news media processes, professional presentations, writing competencies, and many others.

The School’s flagship undergraduate programme is the Bachelor of Communication (BC). This innovative communication degree offers majors and minors in communication management, journalism studies, marketing communication, public relations, expressive arts, linguistics, and media studies, along with minors in international languages: Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. (Note that different
Massey University campuses specialise in varying majors in the BC, so not all majors and minors are available on all the Massey University campuses.)

The BC degree with its strong mix of conceptual and applied studies prepares you for jobs in fast-expanding areas of communication and media, for postgraduate communication and media studies, and for life as a valued and contributing citizen. Postgraduate programmes at Masters and Doctoral level are also available in many of the areas stated above and related subjects.

A dedicated support team of advisors and administrators will be happy to assist you to decide which programmes of study are best suited to your learning needs. All the academic and administrative team members welcome your enquiries about which programmes and courses will enable you to achieve your professional and personal goals.

The University also provides centralised advice on enrolment processes, such as fees, extramural studies, undergraduate and postgraduate handbooks, via 0800 MASSEY (0800 627 739).
