Graduate School of Education
Kia ora, welcome to all new and continuing postgraduate students. You are important members of our educational community, linking and improving professional and research practice. We wish you well with your studies this year.
The Graduate School of Education (GSE) strives to enhance your capacity to study by the coordination, promotion, development and evaluation of high quality postgraduate programmes. We are mindful that a high proportion of our students are studying part-time due to family and work commitments. Flexible study options maximise your potential, such as the opportunity to study extramurally, internally and online. Alternatively, qualifications are separated to enable you to pace your study. You have the opportunity to study a postgraduate certificate (two postgraduate papers), postgraduate diploma (four postgraduate papers), masters degrees (equivalent of four or eight papers) or doctoral options. There are research and course-work pathways to meet varying learning needs. Our programmes and courses are frequently reviewed to ensure we can offer you the most up-to-date research and learning experiences possible.
Remember our staff are happy to advise you and respond to your questions. The GSE Administrator has considerable knowledge about programme options and can be contacted on (06) 351 3475 or in the office (Hokowhitu Tower Block, T2.10). Our Administrator can also put you in contact with the various programme and paper coordinators who have more detailed information about programme and paper content. As Director, I am ultimately responsible for the effective leadership and operation of the Graduate School of Education so I welcome your feedback, suggestions for ongoing improvements and inquiries beyond what our Administrator, the Director’s Secretary and programme coordinators can address. I wish you an exciting and productive year of study.
