B.Sc. (Hons), Queen’s University, Canada (1992). Ph.D., Cornell University, USA (2001). Post-doctoral fellow, Simon Fraser University, Canada (2002-2005). Post-doctoral fellow, Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, Germany (2006-2009), Massey University (2010-present).

• Animal communication
• Sexual selection, sexual size dimorphism and mating systems
• Hormonal basis to behaviour
• Evolution of avian life history strategies
