Are you interested in solving some of the world's most serious problems?

2017 Programme theme: Global Population Issues 

The Global Challenge Project brings together university students from different countries and cultures, to focus on finding solutions to the world's serious problems.  It is hoped that your new ideas, unique experiences, strengths and vision, will combine to produce truly global solutions.  You will develop and share your ideas with the help of Massey senior academics. 

Study group During this four week programme, you will:

  • Work together with students from different countries on a project
  • Go online to collaborate across borders
  • Gain experience visiting leading organisations and companies
  • Develop leadership and critical thinking skills
  • Communicate using English
  • Be immersed in the culture of New Zealand, and learn about the cultures of other students on the course

Topics Include:

  • The shortage of natural resources
  • Aging populations
  • Urbanisation
  • Depopulation
  • Overpopulation
  • Immigration
  • Housing

As you work together, you will begin to develop a global mind-set and acquire new skills in areas of negotiation and critical thinking.  Topics of instruction will include research skills, writing research reports and presenting research results.  Throughout the programme, English language support will be provided.

Prior to arriving in New Zealand, you will be carefully matched to other participants from around the world with complimentary skills and knowledge, and a diversity of experiences to best equip and challenge your group to seek innovative and universally applicable solutions.

Weeks 1-2: Preparation in your home country

  • Online orientation
  • Initial group research

Weeks 3-4: Programme in New Zealand

  • Group project workshops
  • Cultural exchange
  • Industry visits and field exposure
  • Final presentations and assessments

Key Programme Information

DATES: 

Online Component: 31 July - 11 August 2017

New Zealand Component: 14 August - 25 August 2017

CREDITS:  You will receive a Certificate of Participation after successfully completing the course.  Ask your home university if this programme is eligible for credit.

REQUIREMENTS:  Completion of one year of university level study and Permission from your home university.  Minimum Upper Intermediate level of English (IELTS 5.0 or equivalent).  An online English Language test available for participants.  

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  30 June 2017

Extend your experience in New Zealand

Students who would like to have a longer experience in New Zealand can add the Global Challenge Project on to a longer period of Intensive English study at Massey University. 

Depending on where the programme falls during your summer break, you can either arrive early or stay after the programme to make the most of your trip to New Zealand and see even better results.
