Dr Jack Ross

Senior Lecturer

School of English and Media Studies

Jack Ross completed a BA and MA (1st class Hons) in English at Auckland University before being awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study in the UK. He has a PhD in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh. He has always tried to combine Academic teaching with an active writing career, and has been teaching writing courses part-time on the Albany campus since 1996. He was made a Senior Tutor in 2006, a Lecturer in 2009, and a Senior Lecturer in 2013.

He has published five books of poetry - City of Strange Brunettes (1998), Chantal's Book (2002), To Terezin (2007),  Celanie (2012), and A Clearer View of the Hinterland (2014) - as well as three novels, a novella, and two collections of short fiction. He is the managing editor of Poetry New Zealand, New Zealand's oldest poetry journal, and has edited a number of other anthologies, books and literary magazines.

I've published five books of poems, including City of Strange Brunettes (1998), Chantal's Book (2002), To Terezin (2007),  Celanie (2012), and A Clearer View of the Hinterland (2014), as well as three novels, a novella, and two collections of short fiction. I've also edited a number of books and literary magazines, including (from 2014) Poetry NZ. I have a Doctorate in English Literature from Edinburgh University, and work as a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Massey University's Albany campus.
