Expertise in contemporary photography and installation practice with a special interest in the theories and practices related to contemporary documentary, landscape and participative research methods.
Anne Noble is internationally known as one of
New Zealand
’s most highly regarded contemporary photographers. Her practice spans landscape, documentary and installations that incorporate both still and moving images. She often works in series enabling her to explore the medium and its possibilities in great depth. She has turned her attention to subjects ranging from The Wanganui River (1982) and (1990 - 91) to her evolving documentation of childhood, Ruby’s Room, 1998-2007. Within a multiplicity of subject matter and media, her work is consistently pre-occupied with people and the places they inhabit. The

curated a major retrospective exhibition of her work, STATES OF GRACE which toured
New Zealand
between 2001-2003.
Since 2002, Noble has been researching and photographing
Antarctica
continuing an ongoing investigation into landscape and representation. Questioning the practice of framing
Antarctica
as heroic, picturesque or sublime, Noble is searching for appropriate forms of representation in light of our current, rather than historical, relationship to place.
