Kirsty Carpenter
Research interests centre on the French Revolution and Franco-British relations in the Modern period.  Author of an illustrated history of Marsden School, Marsden Women and their World: A History of Marsden School 1878-2003, published for the 125th anniversary in 2003.  This work allowed me to explore the European legacy in independent education in New Zealand.

 Karen Jillings
Main research interests are in the study of epidemic disease, especially plaque and its effects during the middle ages and early Modern period.  She has particular interests in the way in which governments, communities and individuals throughout Europe responded to outbreaks.  Karen has recently published a book on the Black Death in Scotland and is currently looking at representations of disease in medieval literature.

Main area of research interest is New Zealand history, particularly the interaction between technological change and economic, social and political developments.  Currently writing a history of rural technology in New Zealand, 1920-60.  Also has strong interests in New Zealand political history and far-right politics, especially in Europe between the world wars.

Philosophy

William Fish
Main research interests concern contemporary issues in the philosophy of perception - an area of philosophy which lies at the intersection between the two major fields of epistemology and the philosophy of mind.  He is currently in the process of writing a book which develops and defends a relatively new kind of 'disjunctive' theory of perception.

Stephen Chadwick
His PhD considered the social contract theory and its application to international affairs.  This necessitated a close examination of the writings of many important figures in the history of philosophy including Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau and Kant as well as more contemporary figures such as John Rawls and Robert Nozick.
