Distance teaching, the spread and globalization of the Chinese language

The International Conference on the Teaching of Chinese (ICTC) will be held at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand on 27-28 August 2016. This will be jointly organized by the Center for Studies of Chinese as a Second Language at Beijing Language and Culture University, one of the Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Science supported by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China, and the School of Humanities at Massey University in New Zealand.

In the current era of the internet, rapid developments in distance education have provided many favourable conditions and opportunities for Chinese Distance Education and globalization. Focusing on Chinese distance education and globalization, while improving its quality and efficiency, will promote the disciplinary development of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in the internet era. The ICTC conference will focus on the teaching and spread of the Chinese language from multiple perspectives in New Zealand and other countries and areas, in particular the Asia-Pacific region. 

The conference aims to include, but is not limited to, the following research areas:

  • Distance language teaching methodologies, content and/or curriculum
  • Research on language learners and teachers
  • Language acquisition
  • Language testing 
  • Standards for language teaching and learning
  • Digital resources and online language teaching
  • Research on the Chinese language for language teaching
  • Culture learning in Language Education
  • Language identity and cultural identity
  • Cultural factors in language teaching and globalization.
