Two courses in English for academic purposes allow students whose first language is not English to extend their English skills to meet the high demands of university study. These courses help bridge the gap between the English entry requirements for enrolment and the challenging new ways that students need to use English in the tertiary context. The courses also support students to adjust to the culture of learning in New Zealand, and are highly recommended for first-semester study.
English for academic purposes can be taken as part of any bachelor's degree or in a certificate or diploma programme.
"By undertaking the English writing course, my overall confidence in using English has improved, especially in the academic field. This subject has facilitated my learning for other courses and I now have a better understanding on how academic writing works. I could not have accomplished this without the help of all the supportive staff. Thank you all!"
