Fees and funding

Services at the Massey University Psychology Clinic (Palmerston North) are funded in different ways.

Agency funding

Our services can sometimes be funded by external agencies, such as WINZ or other community groups.

ACC supports neuropsychological assessments and psychological therapy for people with injury-related emotional difficulties if related to an approved injury claim and referred by an ACC Case Manager.

If you are eligible, this can be arranged with your agency case manager.

Private funding

You can pay for your own neuropsychological assessment and therapy. We have a sliding scale of fees based on income and the seniority of your practitioner. As we are a teaching clinic, we have first-year doctoral students (typically in their 5th year of training) and interns in their final (typically 7th) year of training providing therapy and assessments. This is a more affordable option. Students and interns are supervised by a senior clinician.

All prices include GST. Your psychologist will discuss fees with you before your appointment. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like a quote for the cost of a neuropsychological assessment or therapy.

Hourly charges for private clients are:

First-Year Doctoral Students

All income brackets, $70

Intern Clinicians

Income <$35,000 = $90

$35,000-$60,000 = $110

>$61,000 = $120

Psychologist Clinicians

Income <$35,000 = $120

$35,000-$60,000 = $145

>$61,000 = $160

>$90,000 = $185

Intern Psychologists and First-Year Doctoral Students

$160 per hour for private client assessments and $172.50 per hour for agency-funded assessments.

We prefer fees to be paid to our receptionist at the time of your appointment. We have EFTPOS. Cheques should be made out to Massey University Psychology Clinic.

Please give us 24 hours’ notice if you are unable to keep an appointment, or you may have to pay half the appointment fee.

If you have difficulties with payment please discuss this with your psychologist, as persistent failure to pay fees could result in the suspension of therapy.
