Searching for a paper

  • Introduction
  • Keywords/paper number
  • Search filters (drop-down menus)

Introduction

You can use keywords, paper numbers and search filters to search through Massey University's database and find the paper(s) that interest you. The search will match your selections to the information for papers.

Keywords/paper number

Follow these basic search tips to get the best results:

  • Type one or more words to get results that contain one or all of the keywords.
  • Uppercase and lowercase are treated the same.
  • You can enter paper numbers with or without the full-stop.
  • If you are having trouble finding a paper try using fewer words, or even parts of words. For example, entering "tech" will show all papers with "tech" in their titles or prescriptions.

Search filters

  • Introduction
  • Campus location
  • Semester
  • Subject
  • Level
  • Mode
  • Year

Introduction

The filters allow you to narrow your search further and limit your results to a specific campus, semester, subject, level, mode and year.

To select an option in a search filter, click the drop-down arrow to the right of the drop-down box and the available options appear. Use your mouse to select one of the options.

Campus location

Massey is New Zealand's only truly national university. Our different campuses offer a range of options and lifestyles. The campuses are:

  • Auckland (Albany)
  • Palmerston North
  • Wellington
When you select a location from the drop-down list only the papers offered at that location will be displayed.

Semester

The academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester consists of a period of teaching followed by a study/examination period at the end, and a mid-semester break. Semester One runs from late February to late June. Semester Two runs from mid-July to mid-November. There is also a Summer School, which runs from mid-November to mid-February. Single semester papers run in one semester. Double semester papers span two adjacent semesters.

Choose a semester to show only those papers that are available in that teaching period. Or choose the "All" option to view papers offered in any semester.

  • All (show all semesters below)
  • Semester 1
  • Semester 2
  • Double Semester
  • Summer School

Subject

Massey's papers are divided into different subject areas. Each area is defined by the first three numbers in the paper's number. Select a paper prefix to search for all of the papers in a particular subject. For example, if you knew you needed to do one more Finance paper, you could select "125.xxx Finance" to display all of the papers with numbers starting "125".

Level

Massey's papers are divided into different levels. Generally each level pertains to a different year of study. Use the following information as a guide, as there are some exceptions.

  • All (show all levels below)
  • 100 level (1st year)
  • 200 level (2nd year)
  • 300 level (3rd year)
  • 400 level (4th year)
  • 500 level (5th year, mostly veterinary)
  • 700 level (Postgraduate, Honours)
  • 800 level (Masters)
  • 900 level (PhD)

Mode (of study)

Papers at Massey can be studied internally, by distance or by block mode. Internal mode requires attendance at regularly scheduled classes on one of Massey's campuses. Distance Learning (Extramural) mode allows students to study via correspondence and/or by electronic means, with the opportunity usually provided for one or more contact courses. Block mode refers to internal papers where the class contact is in a compressed time period.

Choose from one of the following options to view only those papers offered in the particular mode:

  • All (show all modes below)
  • Internal
  • Distance Learning (Extramural)
  • Block

Year

When you select a year from this filter only the papers offered in the particular year are shown.
