Integrative Studies in Veterinary Science IV

This course is the fourth in a series of integrative and contextualising studies in the BVSc. Students will identify problems related to veterinary science and investigate these through direct (e.g. field studies) or indirect (e.g. literature) research, at a level appropriate to a third year veterinary student. Students will develop problem solving strategies and professional competencies, including scientific writing.

Course notes

This course is only available to BVSc Year 3 students. Students will be required to be at Massey University until the end of each semester. The Examination dates posted on the University Website do not include Practical or other SoVS organised examinations, most of which take place after the formal written examination. Travel plans should therefore be made on the basis of being at Massey until the semester end date unless and until the Undergraduate Programme Office advises that an earlier departure date will be permitted.

Attendance at all classes is compulsory. Non-attendance, without exemption having been granted, constitutes failure in the course. All assessments must be completed.

General progression requirements

You must complete at least 45 credits from 200-level before enrolling in 300-level courses.

  • 1 Discuss the development of meaningful research questions in the arena of veterinary science, in the disciplines of practical, applied or basic sciences, veterinary professional behaviour or veterinary education.
  • 2 Undertake a substantial investigation of the research question(s), through activities that may include review of literature, gathering of data, analysis (using qualitative or quantitative methods) and the presentation of a report that is clear, cohesive and written in correct academic style.
  • 3 Display sound professional judgement, with consideration for the ethical, moral and legal principles governing research.
