Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

  1. Identify and evaluate the importance of developing a coaching philosophy.
  2. Differentiate between various coaching styles and their application.
  3. Develop an understanding of the application of management skills to the coaching process.
  4. Explain how personal and group factors affect performance and psychological development in the sport setting.
  5. Identify and understand the situational factors that guide athletic participation and behavior.

Learning experience

This course offers an introduction to basic principles of sport coaching which includes an introduction to key psychological factors that influence participation and performance in physical activity, exercise, and sport, from the coaching perspective.
