Entry requirements

International students

Before enrolling for the Foundation Certificate, a student shall have:

  • received a conditional offer of place to their next programme of study (conditional on English language proficiency only); and
  • achieved a 5.5 IELTS (no band less than 5.5)

Domestic students

Before enrolling New Zealand citizens and permanent residents shall have:

  • completed undergraduate degree
  • academic admission to their next programme of study; and
  • a minimum 5.5 IELTS in each band or equivalent.

Foundation Certificate in Advanced Academic English structure

Pathway

Successful completion of the Foundation Certificate in Advanced Academic English (DEEP Advanced) requires passes in all four courses and achievement of the overall grade required for admission to the next programme of study, as stated in the letter of offer.

These regulations should be read in conjunction with all other Statutes and Regulations of the University including the General Regulations for Undergraduate Degrees, Undergraduate Diplomas, Undergraduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates

Courses

The Foundation Certificate in Advanced Academic English (DEEP Advanced) is comprised of four courses designed to develop the academic reading, writing and language skills necessary for successful postgraduate study.

To successfully complete the certificate you must pass the following courses and achieve the grade required for admission to the next programme of study:

192.030 Advanced Academic Reading and Writing I
192.031 Advanced Academic Language Skills and Conventions I
192.032 Advanced Academic Reading and Writing II
192.033 Advanced Academic Language Skills and Conventions II

Students must pass 192.030 before enrolling in 192.032, and must pass 192.031 before enrolling in 192.033.


How much will it cost?

There will also be compulsory non-tuition fees you have to pay in addition to your tuition fees. For some courses there may be other charges for things such as study resources, software, trips and contact workshops.
