Entry requirements

    1. Admission to Massey University;
    2. Attainment of a Bachelor of Design (Honours) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) or Postgraduate Diploma in Design or Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Arts or equivalent with a grade average of B;
    3. Selection into the programme through an interview and the assessment of a portfolio of submitted art and design work; and
    4. Required English language proficiency of an academic IELTS of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0), for applicants whose first language is not English

An “equivalent” qualification may include a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Fine Arts along with relevant industry/professional experience.

Application due date

  • 15 November (for a February start).

Late applications may be accepted, subject to available spaces.

International applicants should allow at least three months for processing.

Master of Fine Arts structure

The programme consists of 240 credits delivered internally on the Wellington campus over a period of 2 years full-time study, or part-time options are available.

These regulations should be read in conjunction with all other Statutes and Regulations of the University including the General Regulations for Postgraduate Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Postgraduate Certificates

Progression to Part Two will be conditional upon achievement of a B Grade Average over Part One.

Majors or endorsements

The Master of Fine Arts may be awarded with or without a subject in either Fine Arts or Design. The subject will be specified following the successful completion of Part One.


How much will it cost?

There will also be compulsory non-tuition fees you have to pay in addition to your tuition fees.
