If animals are your passion, then the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Massey University is for you. By studying veterinary technology at Massey University, you’ll be joining a profession of highly sought after individuals dedicated to contributing to the health and well-being of animals, people, and communities.
Massey is the only New Zealand university and one of only three universities in Australasia offering training as a veterinary technologist.
The BVetTech is a 3-year degree that is divided into a pre-selection semester and a professional phase.
This page provides the portal for applying for the pre-selection semester of the veterinary technology programme (BVetTech). Clicking the “Apply now” button on this page will take you to the application for selection into the pre-selection semester of the veterinary technology degree. But before you apply, please read the BVetTech planning page, where you’ll find details about the veterinary technology programme. The portal to apply for the professional phase is also located on the BVetTech planning page.
The pre-selection semester occurs in Semester One (beginning late February each year) and is your opportunity to compete for entry into the professional phase of the veterinary technology degree. During this phase, you’ll complete the prerequisite courses for veterinary technology selection (or alternates if you are given credit for these courses). You’ll also complete an essay on “The Veterinary Industry” as detailed in “selection to the professional phase” section on the BVetTech planning page. Your grades from your courses along with the results of your selection assessments will be used to determine your selection score and ranking for selection into the professional phase.
The professional phase of the BVetTech programme starts in Semester Two (July) of Year 1, right after the pre-selection semester. If you are selected into the professional phase of the BVetTech programme, you will take a range of courses covering everything you need to become a qualified veterinary technologist.
There is a separate application for each phase (pre-selection and professional) of the BVetTech, but not every applicant will need to complete them both (for example a returning student may not need to apply for the pre-selection semester. Please go to the BVetTech planning page, and read the information there to determine what type of applicant you are, and therefore which applications you’ll need to complete if you want to become a veterinary technologist.
