Massey University chose to mark this year’s Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) by celebrating excellence in Māori publishing and establishing the University’s inaugural Ngā Kupu Ora Māori Book Awards.

Books on Māori topics published in 2008-2009 were reviewed and shortlisted and hundreds of voters took part in on-line voting. The award winners were announced on 31 July.

The short-lists in each category (with Massey staff, students and alumni denoted by an asterisk) were:
