Te Wheke a Toi: The International Indigenous Centre for Critical Doctoral Studies
Te Wheke a Toi offers cultural and whānau-centred support to help current Māori and Indigenous doctoral students succeed. It provides:
- opportunities to come together as Māori to write, kōrero, whanaungatanga and participate in workshops – for example, on how to complete a literature review
- access to presentations by Māori and Indigenous speakers
- online writing wānanga 10am - 3pm, Monday to Friday. Self directed sessions - to connect and write with other Māori postgraduate students
- dedicated study space open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Manawatū campus, Geography Building room 1.11 for Māori students studying masterates and doctorates.
Also there are opportunities to come together throughout the year for writing wānanga and to share where we are in our doctoral journeys.

Te Kupenga o MAI ki Manawatū - Māori and Indigenous Scholar Network
The Māori and Indigenous programme (MAI), run through Te Kupenga o Mai ki Manawatū, is a network of Māori and Indigenous scholars which aims to build the capability of Māori and Indigenous postgraduate students in Aotearoa New Zealand. The programme is managed by Te Wheke a Toi.
