An international reputation
Massey's research capabilities have long been recognised by our peers around the world. We are one of only four New Zealand universities to have been listed among the world's top 200 universities by the Times Higher Education Supplement since they began publishing in 2004. The rankings judged higher education institutions from every continent based on their strengths in teaching and research and their international reputation.
Our innovative research initiatives include the Double Helix, New Zealand's most powerful nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer; the EpiCentre, which played a pivotal role in controlling the United Kingdom's foot and mouth epidemic; the Allan Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution; and the Research School of Public Health.
The university is well known for its applied teaching and applied research programmes. Our colleges and research centres are notable for their special expertise in technology, science, applied science and business studies.
Our college research awards recognise and promote research excellence. Three awards may be made at each college: one each for individual, supervisor and early career. Each college research award-winner is entered into the Massey University Research Medal - our top awards. Each year, we award an individual, a supervisor and an early career, and also a team research medal. Research grants are given to the medal winners.
Research centres
Massey and its academic departments host many research centres, providing staff and students with world-class infrastructure and support.
