The Centre of Excellence for Research in Mathematics Education sits within the School of Curriculum and Pedagogy at Massey University. The Centre provides a recognisable identity for current activities, and a unifying focus and support for research endeavours, across the sectors from Early Childhood to Tertiary education. The Centre is committed to maximising access to and empowerment with mathematics.
Research within the Centre focuses on the learning, teaching and use of mathematics and the role of mathematics in society. Members of the Centre undertake research that informs current educational initiatives within New Zealand, including:

curriculum development;

effective teacher practices; and

student and teacher learning.
In addition to research activities, the Centre provides specialist research graduate qualifications in mathematics and statistics education. Members consult with government advisory groups on policy and curriculum matters related to numeracy and mathematics/statistics education. They collaborate with local centres and schools in research and professional activities.
