In setting up the Centre, Massey University has recognised the demographic changes that are compelling organisations to support the potential and achievements of women. By the year 2011, the representation of women in the New Zealand workforce will have increased to eight women to every ten men and there is a need to know about the consequences of those changes.
The Centre has connections with industry, private enterprise and the public sector, and draws on the expertise of local specialists as well as attracting international speakers and researchers for its programmes. The Centre acts as an independent forum for debate, co-ordinates research projects, convenes conferences, short courses and public speaking engagements.
The Centre's work has a focus on women in management and business, women in higher education, women in self-employment, women as directors, women as leaders in central and local government and community organisations.
