The Albany Campus' new Library building was officially opened by Prime Minister John Key on 7th May 2010. A new extension to the existing building was constructed to cater for growing student numbers and to provide state-of-the-art Library facilities and technologies. We look forward to seeing you in the Library and helping you with your information needs during your time at Massey University.

Location and Maps
The Library is located on the East Precinct of the Albany campus, between the Atrium Building and the IIMS Building. The main entrance to the University is through Gate 1 on Dairy Flat Highway (formerly called State Highway 17) and car parking is available in front of the Quad Building. Please see the campus maps, transport and parking information for further details.

Please note: Full services may not be available during weekday evenings after 8 p.m., weekends and public holidays.
Collections
The Albany Campus Library has a generalist collection, with an emphasis on business, the social sciences, and the sciences. The Library holds over 120,000 books, plus print journals, newspapers, reference items, and audiovisual material to support the programmes offered at the Albany Campus.
Short Loan Collection
The Short Loan Collection is located on the left as you enter the Library on Level 2. The Collection contains text books and other high demand material which is available for either 2 hour or 3 day loan. This is a self-service collection with a self-check machine that students can use to borrow and return short loan material.
Pasifika Collection
A research collection of Pasifika material is being developed at the Albany Library. It is housed on Level 3 and books can be identified by a frangipani label on the spine of material. The collection holds books, print journals, and audiovisual material with Pasifika content.
Nga Kupu Ora Collection
Books, print journals, and audiovisual material containing significant Maori content are held in the Nga Kupu Ora collection on Level 3. It can be identified by a mango-pare label on the spine of the material.
Study Areas & Room Booking
A wide range of study space options is provided in the Library. There are 1000 study spaces, 11 study pods and 7 group study rooms. The group study rooms are located on Levels 2 and 3 and are equipped with a computer and whiteboard. The rooms can be booked up to a week in advance, for up to two hours a day per group, on a standalone PC located on a pillar in the middle of the Information Commons. The study pods on Level 1 cannot be booked and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. These pods are intended for groups, and individual students using a pod will be asked to vacate it if there is a group waiting. Groups can also work together at any of the large tables on Levels 1-3.
Levels 4 and 5 are quiet zones for individual, silent study.
Disability Access & Services
The Albany Campus provides mobility parking close to the Library entrance, ramp access, automatic doors, accessible toilets and a lift to all five floors. There is a Disability Study Room on Level 2 of the Library which has disability computer equipment. This room has swipe card access and students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Campus' Disability Coordinator to request access. One of the photocopiers on Level 2 is suitable for wheelchair access and use. For more information, please see The Library for People With Disabilities.
Distance Students
Distance students are welcome to visit the Albany Campus Library and are entitled to use the same facilities and services as those studying internally. Please bring your ID card or, if you haven't received one, photo identification. Freepost return labels are available on request from the Combined Services Desk. Books from any Massey Library may be returned to the Albany Campus Library. Distance students have a login for the Information Commons - use your student ID number and PIN. Please ask at the Information Desk if you don't know your PIN, or it's not working.
The print collection at the Albany Campus Library primarily supports papers and courses taught at the Albany Campus.

Albany Library Information Commons
The Information Commons is located on Level 2 of the Library. There are 150 computers available for use by Massey University students (internal and extramural) and staff on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wireless Network
Massey University’s Wireless Networking Service (free to staff and students) is available throughout the Library. More information is available on configuration and coverage from Massey University Wireless Networking Services. Printing is not available to wireless users.
Public/Visitor Walk-In Computer
A public walk-in computer is available on Level 2 offering access to some electronic resources, Internet and email. Printing is not available, but you may email or save documents. Please ask at Information on Level 2 for log in assistance.
Help and Support
Specialised IT help is available from the Combined Services Desk during opening hours. Help sheets are also available. Albany ITS also run a Help Desk for students (located in the IIMS Building next to the Library) Monday to Friday.
Availability
Computers are available on a first-come first-served basis, and may not be reserved. Computers unattended for more than 10 minutes may be logged off by Library staff and made available for other users. Please consider other students with legitimate study needs before you engage in non-study activities (social networking, email) at peak times. Gaming is not allowed.
Photocopying
- Black & white photocopiers are on Level 2
- A colour photocopier is on Level 1
- Help is available from IT staff at the Combined Services Desk
- Your student ID card is your photocopying card. Your network account must be in credit.
- Photocopying cards may also be purchased for 60 cents from the Combined Services Desk
- Costs:
Black & white: A4 = 7 cents (excl. GST); A3 = 14 cents (excl. GST)
Colour: A4 = 30 cents (excl. GST); A3 = 60 cents (excl.GST)
Double-sided: charged as 2 copies
Note: GST is deducted at the time you pay money into your network account
Other Equipment
Mini Theatre
There is a mini theatre on Level 1 which groups can book to view audiovisual material for study/educational purposes. The theatre can seat 12 people and has a projector and DVD/video machine. All enquiries and bookings to be made at Information on Level 2.
DVD and video machines
The Library has DVD and video players on Level 1 for individual viewing of audiovisual material. Headphones may be borrowed from the Desk on Level 2.
Microfiche/Microform Printer-Reader
The Albany Campus Library has a microfiche/microfilm reader-printer located in the Archives Room on Level 1. You can save to a USB drive or your student network (H:) drive. For assistance, please ask at Information on Level 2.
Housekeeping
Food & Drink
Snacks, such as muesli bars, and drinks with spill-proof lids are allowed. Hot and/or messy food is not permitted. Library staff will use their discretion in determining which food and drink are unsuitable.
Noise
Please be considerate of others in keeping noise levels to a minimum, including talking, music via headphones, and mobile phone use. Please turn mobile phones off or onto silent mode when in the Library. Levels 4 and 5 are quiet zones for individual, silent study.
Lost Property
Lost property items are held at the Combined Services Desk for up to a month, after which they are collected by Security.
After-Hours Returns
When the Library is closed items can be returned through the after-hours slot to the left of the entrance.
