Get help using your library card to borrow items, and logging in to MyLibrary and the library’s databases and electronic resources.

Your library card allows you to borrow items in person at our campus libraries.

Your online login gives you access to Discover, MyLibrary, and the library’s subscribed electronic resources including article databases, online journals and ebooks.

What you can access depends on whether you’re a:

Students

Current Massey students have access to MyLibrary and all of the library’s subscribed electronic resources.

Library card

As a current student, your Massey student ID card is also your library card. To borrow library items in person, bring your ID card with you.

Logging in

As a current student, your username is your student ID number and your password is your Massey network password. This might be different from your student portal password.

If your ID number has fewer than eight digits, add enough zeros at the start of the number to increase it to eight digits.

If you’ve forgotten your ID number or network password, contact the Massey National Contact Centre and ask them to give you your ID number or reset your password.

MyLibrary

In MyLibrary you can:

  • view items you’ve borrowed and when they’re due
  • view items you’ve requested and where you are in the queue
  • renew items
  • view your library fines

Log in to MyLibrary

Electronic resources

When you log in online, you get access to the library’s subscribed electronic resources. These include:

  • article databases
  • online journals
  • ebooks
  • videos
  • handbooks
  • online encyclopaedias
  • dictionaries
  • other resources.

Exam papers

You need to log in to see past exam papers.

  • For your username, use your student ID number (without "@massey.ac.nz")
  • For your password, use your Stream password

Be sure to use your Stream password, not your Portal password (which may be different).

Staff

Current staff members have access to MyLibrary and all of the library’s subscribed electronic resources.

Retired staff members and professors emeriti can also get a library membership. allowing them to continue borrowing print books in person at the library. From 19th February 2024 if retired staff wish to have books delivered, as well as access to a selection of subscribed electronic resources, they can join as an Alumni Plus member.

Library card

Your Massey staff ID card is also your library card. To borrow library items in person, bring your ID card with you.

If you’re a retired staff member or professor emeriti, your Friends of Massey or Distinguished Friends of Massey card acts as your library card.

Logging in

As a Massey staff member, your login username and password are your staff username and password.

If you’re not sure what your username is or you’ve forgotten your password, contact Information Technology Services.

MyLibrary

In MyLibrary you can:

  • view items you’ve borrowed and when they’re due
  • view items you’ve requested and where you are in the queue
  • renew items

Alumni

If you’re a Massey graduate, or former staff member, you can sign up to one of our alumni service options.

From 19th February 2024 these are:

Alumni Basic

  • Unlimited in-person only borrowing of print books.
  • Books may be picked up in person at one of our campus libraries.
  • You may request them online beforehand if you want them delivered to a different campus library for you to pick up in person.
  • Maximum of 40 books checked out at any time.
  • No remote access to subscribed electronic resources.
  • Cost: $50 p.a.

Alumni Basic: Search for print books using Discover


Alumni Plus

  • Unlimited in-person borrowing of print books.
  • Maximum of 40 books checked out at any time.
  • Books may be picked up in person at one of our campus libraries.
  • Courier home delivery of up to 12 books per year (6 couriered books if you choose the 6 month plan).
  • Remote access to a selection of subscribed electronic resources.
  • Cost: $225 p.a. (or 6 months for $125)

Library card

Once you’ve applied for your membership, you can pick your card up in person. If you’re not able to do this, we’ll send you a letter containing:

  • your library card
  • instructions to log in to your library account to create a password. If you’re overseas, we’ll send this information in an email.

Logging in

To log in as an alumni member, your username is ‘lib’ followed by your initials and surname. For example, if your name is Joe Edgar Bloggs, your user name is libjebloggs.

If your initials and surname together (not including ‘lib’) are longer than nine characters, your username will just use the first nine.

Your password is the barcode number on your library card. When you first log in, you’ll be asked to change this to something else.

If you forget your password, contact us and we can reset it for you.

  • view your unpaid library fines

Doctoral and master’s applicants

You can get a library membership for up to four months if you’re an intending doctoral or master’s thesis student.

Library card

You may already have a Massey student ID card. If you do, you can use this as your library card. To borrow library items in person, bring your ID card with you.

If you don’t have access to our subscribed electronic resources, you can still access some electronic resources by visiting one of our campus libraries and using your own device to connect to the MUGuests wifi network.

Electronic resources

Depending on your membership type, you may not have access to all library resources. For example, you may be able to borrow print books but not access electronic resources. If you are not allowed access, you will encounter a page stating this.

Help and troubleshooting

If you’re having trouble logging in, try the following:

  • make sure your browser is up to date
  • clear your browser history
  • if you’re using Internet Explorer, Edge, Safari or Chrome, try Firefox
  • if you’re already logged in to a computer with a different Massey account or a non-Massey Microsoft account, you may need to use Firefox or an incognito browser window.
