50th Jubilee of Distance Learning

On 15 November 2010 the University officially launched the 50th Jubilee book, From a Distance, to celebrate the last 25 years of Distance Education.

The book, written by Emeritus Professor Tom Prebble, picks up from the story of the first 25 years which appears in, Campus Beyond the Walls (J.M.R. Owens, 1985). It describes the rapid growth of Extramural Studies through the 1970s and 1980s; the evolution of media used to deliver and support distance teaching; and the systems employed to run such a large and complex service. The book acknowledges the contribution made by the hundreds of academics who have taught by distance over the last 25 years.

Copies of From a Distance are available for purchase through the Massey University Alumni Shop and electronic copies can be downloaded for free from the following link.

50th Jubilee of Distance Library Service

To commemorate 50 years of providing a library service to distance students, the University launched the book, Your Books Are in The Mail, on 15 June 2011.

Bruce White, the author of the book, gives a comprehensive account of the history and impact of the Distance Library Services at Massey University, from its days of pioneering a first in New Zealand, i.e. a genuine library service to distance students, to the present.

Copies of the book can be purchased from the Massey University Library or you can download an electronic copy.
