What is Encore?
Encore is another way to search the Library Catalogue. Use Encore to do broad keyword searches to see what the Library has on a topic. You'll find it much easier to see all your options at a glance.
When Should I Use the Classic Catalogue?
Use the Classic Catalogue for non-keyword searches such as course texts and reserve items, exam papers, author, title etc. If your keyword search is complex (e.g. you wish to connect terms using OR), use the Advanced Search page.
What's Different About Encore?
Once you've done your search, Encore makes it much easier to see extra information about your results.
From the Encore results screen you can see:
- Ways to refine or narrow down your results (e.g. Format, Collection, Language, Publish Date)
- A tag cloud of related subjects
- Recently added material
- Links to tables of contents, reviews and summaries
You can also add your own tags (for finding your favourite items faster) using the Community Tags feature. You need to be logged in to do this.
Search Tips
- If you wish to connect your keywords with AND, simply leave a space between each word. You can also use "and" or an ampersand (&) e.g. climate zealand or climate & zealand.
- You are not able to connect your keywords with OR in Encore. Use the Advanced Search instead. Don't type in the word OR as a Boolean operator as Encore will treat this as a search term.
- If you are searching for a phrase, enclose the phrase in quotation marks e.g. "total quality management".
- You may use an asterisk to retrieve variant word endings; e.g. teenage* will retrieve teenage, teenaged, teenager and teenagers.
