How to Find Items in the Short Loan Collection

This page will tell you how to search the Library Catalogue to find items held on short loan for your course. This includes compulsory and recommended textbooks.

Students are expected to purchase compulsory textbooks. The Library purchases limited copies of compulsory textbooks and cannot guarantee that a copy will be available to borrow.

Most items in Short Loan Collections are issued for two hours or three day loan (72 hours). The maximum loan time is displayed on the catalogue record of each short loan item. These may be taken out of the Library.

You will need the call number of the item to retrieve it from the Short Loan collection.

Find Short Loan items by Your Course Number

  1. Search the Library Catalogue by entering the full course number (always include the decimal point) surrounded by double quotation marks
    e.g. “175.101”
  2. Click on the arrow button or press Enter

You will see a list with past exam papers for your course displayed at the top.

  1. Look down the left-hand menu for the heading titled Course
  2. Click on the course number/campus or course title that you need (if some of these items are on short loan for more than one course you will see those other courses listed here too)
You will now see a list of all the items on short loan for that course
