Finding Newspaper Articles
Massey University Library provides access to a large number of national and international newspapers. Most newspapers are available electronically, some are available in print, and some titles are available on microfilm or microfiche. Some newspapers are available in more than one format. The Library has extensive back-runs of some major New Zealand newspapers, such as the New Zealand Herald and Dominion Post.

For current events research, newspapers provide:
- the latest issues and trends
- diverse opinions on controversial topics
- company and financial information
- biographical information
For historical research, newspapers also include:
- coverage of historical events
- public notices
- biographical information, including obituaries, births, deaths and marriages
- advertisements
Note:
- Newspapers are not peer-reviewed and articles are not necessarily written by people who are acknowledged experts in the field. Checking the journalist’s credentials may be advisable.
- Newspapers are aimed at general audiences, and don’t usually provide in depth research or analysis. Use journals for in depth research.
- A newspaper’s electronic version may not be the exact equivalent of the print version. Sometimes the rights to an article will not be available for the electronic version; photos and advertisements may be omitted.
- Some electronic sources don’t include stories from overseas newswires such as Reuters
