Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan service enables Massey staff and students to obtain material, not held in any of the Massey University Libraries, from other libraries and suppliers in New Zealand and overseas.

Our Inter-campus Loan service allows Massey staff and students to obtain material from other Massey University campus libraries.

Placing a Request

Before you place your Interlibrary loan request, please check the Library Catalogue to make sure that your material is not available at any of the Massey Campus Libraries. If it is available at another Massey library, please use our Inter-campus service.

To place a request, please complete either the Journal Article Request Form or the Book Request Form. You will need to log in to MyLibrary to access these forms. If you wish to place your request in person, please complete the print request form available from:

Charges

The Library charges $5.00 for each standard interlibrary loan (interloan); $15.00 is charged for an urgent interlibrary loan. If any item is particularly expensive to obtain, then the Library may choose to negotiate over sharing the cost.

Methods of Payment

Charging to a Department Account:
Fill in the account number on the request form.

EFTPOS and Credit card payments:
Provide your credit card details in the space provided on the request form (NB: details sent online are secure) or phone (06)350-5670 ext 7671 between 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and provide your credit card details over the phone. You may also make credit card or EFTPOS payments at the Lending Desk at all campus libraries.

Paying by Cash or Cheque:
Cash and cheque payments can be made at:

How Long Will it Take?

Articles usually arrive within 1 week. Books available within New Zealand will arrive within 1 - 2 weeks. Books requested from overseas will take longer due to postage times. We will advise you if your requested book is not available within New Zealand and there will be a delay.

Urgent Requests

Photocopies/scans can generally be obtained within 24 hrs. Books will be requested immediately, although it is difficult to determine delivery times. All urgent requests are processed immediately. We will advise on the progress of your request.

Helpful Hints

  • Please write clearly
  • Include your source of reference (e.g. database)
  • Provide as much detail as possible and avoid abbreviations
  • Use a separate form for each request
  • Return or renew books before the due date
  • Some books obtained from overseas, all theses, and complete journal issues may only be used within the Library.

Copyright

The University complies with the provisions of the Copyright act 1994 and its license with Copyright Licensing Ltd.

  • A copy shall be made only for the purposes of private study or research.
  • Materials obtained through Interlibrary Loans may not be reproduced in study guides or placed in the Reserve Book Collection without the copyright holder’s permission.
  • Only a single copy will be made of the same article or part of a whole work.
  • Up to two articles from the same issue of a journal can be requested,if these relate to the same subject matter.
  • A copy shall not extend to more than a reasonable proportion of a complete work. Normally one chapter or 10%.
