Citation policy
Purpose
To assist the Graduation Office with receiving Doctoral degree citations for the Graduation handbook in a timely manner.Justification
There is often a problem with having Doctoral citations appropriate for the graduation programmes available in a timely way. There is also the issue of the quality of the citations, particularly if they are submitted near to the time that Graduation handbooks close off for printing.Policy
That all Doctoral candidates be asked to submit their citations electronically at the time of thesis submission for examination. The citations will be forwarded to the regional Student Learning Centre for editing. The SLC’s will edit the citations and return them to the Graduate Research School within five working days.
The Graduate Research School will hold the citations until the examination process has been completed and the Doctoral candidate has been recommended for the award of the Doctoral degree. The Graduate Research School will then place the citation on their website and forward it to NSATS for the Graduation handbook.
If the Doctoral candidate does not submit their citation with their thesis for examination, the examination process will not be delayed. The candidate however, will not be recommended for the award of the degree until such time as the citation has been received, as with the current policy for receiving two hard bound and 1 digital copy of the thesis for the University Library and the candidate’s Academic Unit.
