GRS Training/Workshops

To register for any of the following workshops please email Wendy Dixon with the name of the workshop, date and campus. Please note that workshops may be cancelled if there are insufficient numbers.
Student workshops are now been run through Centre of Teaching and Learning and upcoming workshops can be viewed here.

Applying for Postgraduate Scholarships:

This workshop is intended for candidates and supervisors. It will include a survey of the range of scholarships available to postgraduates (internal and external, academic, travel and hardship); how to shape applications for particular scholarships and the scholarships interview. Presenters will include the Chair of the Massey University Scholarships Committee, senior academic staff members from local and national scholarship selection panels and the Scholarship Officer.

GRS Forum:

All doctoral supervisors and candidates are invited to attend this informal forum where topics of interest and concern are discussed. The idea of the forum is to share ideas and obtain feedback. It will be lead by the Chair of the Doctoral Research Committee.

Doctoral Supervisors' Workshops:

Academic staff who are eligible to supervise Doctoral candidates are required by Academic Board to attend a Doctoral Supervisors' Workshop. The workshop is for doctoral research supervisors new to the university and/or new to research supervision. It is also suitable for supervisors who wish to refresh their knowledge and skills. It will cover Massey University doctoral processes, the qualities of a good supervisor, supports for candidates, the candidate experience and examination processes.

Convenors Meetings:

This meeting is for examination convenors only and is an opportunity for the convenors on each campus to get together with the Dean to discuss any issues that have arisen as a result of examinations, provides the GRS the opportunity to improve processes, and helps convenors to clarify issues with the Chair of the Doctoral Research Committee.

Doctoral Examiners' Workshops:

This workshop is for Doctoral supervisors new to the university and/or new to Doctoral supervision. As a new supervisor, academic staff members will also be called upon to act as an internal examiner. The workshop covers the administrative process for examinations, how to examine a thesis, and the expectations of an examiner.
