Composition
Chairperson
Appointed by the Vice-Chancellor, and who shall satisfy the Health Research Council requirements for the Chair of an Institutional Ethics Committee.
Academic Board Appointees
Three or four members, appointed by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Academic Board for a term of three years, normally being persons active in research on human beings, at least one of whom must be a female and one of whom must be a male, and one of whom must be Maori who should have an awareness of te reo Maori and an understanding of tikanga Maori.
Vice-Chancellor Nominees
Up to two members appointed by the Massey University Council on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor for a term of three years.
Community Members
Five or six members from the community, at least two of whom must be a female and two of whom must be male, and one of whom must be Maori who should have an awareness of te reo Maori and an understanding of tikanga Maori. Appointed by the Vice-Chancellor for a term of three years.
Notes
- At least one member of the Committee should be a lawyer and one member should have expertise in ethics (eg a teacher of ethics, philosopher, theologian, community recognised person such as a Maori elder).
- The Human Ethics Committee shall have the power to co-opt additional members for a limited time as may be required.
- The Human Ethics Committee should have the power to consult on matters where the Committee lacks the relevant expertise.
