Traffic and Parking

Massey caters for approximately 10,500 students and staff each day and many of them require car parks.

If you wish to bring a motor vehicle to campus, there are several parking options available:

  • Manawatu Campus Halls Car Parking (students only)
  • Casual Parking
  • Metered Parking
  • Reserved Parking
  • Residential Parking
  • Mobility Parking
  • Visitor Parking
  • Parking Coupons

The University has its own regulations that control parking and driving at both Turitea and Hokowhitu sites. Please ensure you read these.

Manawatu Campus Halls Car Parking (students only)

Please use this link to complete and submit your application for Campus Halls parking.

Casual Parking

Staff and students can park in Orchard or Bourke Road car parks at a current cost of $2.00 per exit. Hokowhitu car park is also available at $2.00 per day (pay and display)

Pre-pay (per semester) cards can also be purchased from FM Help Desk for these parks. If you travel to work every day by car then this is the cheaper option.

1 x Semester $108.00

2 x Semesters $206.00

3 x Semesters $297.00

Metered Parking

Metered parks are available all around campus at the posted rate. Costs vary depending on location. Be sure to check.

Reserved Parking

Staff and students can apply for a reserved parking at Turitea and Hokowhitu Campuses. (Refer Campus Map or online application form for the locations)

The cost of these falls into two categories:

1. Numbered Reserve which is guaranteed for exclusive use.

2. Non-Numbered which allows access to a Reserved area but without guarantee of a parking space.

Refer application form for costs.

N.B. All Reserved parks automatically have access to Orchard and Bourke Road parks but not the metered spaces.

Residential Parking

Pre-pay (per semester) residential car parks are available for the exclusive use of students who live in the Halls.* Proof of residency and vehicle ownership will be required.

* Refer FM Help Desk on Colombo Road for costs and conditions.

Bicycles and Motorcycles

Refer Parking and Traffic Regulations.

Mobility Parking

Visitors, Students, and Part-time Employees

Massey University provides mobility parking spaces near all major buildings on campus.

These are for the use of visitors, students, and part-time employees who are displaying a CCS mobility card.

If there are no mobility parking spaces available, persons displaying a CCS mobility card, may park on a time-limited parking zones for double the time indicated, or on metered car parks for double the stated time (please note that charges still apply on meters).

Full-time Employees

Full-time employees (37.5 hours per week), who are holders of CCS mobility cards, are not permitted to park on mobility parking spaces, all day, as these are a limited resource.

However Massey University will provide numbered parking spaces for staff holding CCS mobility card, near their place of work, as resources allow, these parking spaces will be paid for by the individual at general parking rates, not numbered parking rates.

Visitor Parking

An automated booking system allocates all visitor parking, and an integral component is the use of email. Consequently, users are encouraged, in the first instance and wherever possible, to use email communication when requesting bookings.

To facilitate bookings users are reminded to submit requests, at least, 24 hours before parking is required. Upon completion of the booking an electronic confirmation will be generated, at least 12 hours prior to commencement, detailing the park number and pin code for the barrier arm of the specified car park.

Regulations

Visitor parking is a service provided for the use of departments when callers or guests are expected on University business. This service is not for the use of staff commuting between the Turitea and Hokowhitu sites.

Hokowhitu staff members that have reserve parking are given free admission to general parking areas within Turitea ie Orchard Road and Bourke Road car parks. This provision is pre-programmed on all access cards at the time of issue.

Parking Coupons

Parking coupons are another option for staff members commuting between the Turitea and Hokowhitu sites. Coupons allow parking on any metered space (excluding the metered parks at the rear of the Turitea Library) throughout the two sites and each voucher is valid for one full day. Coupons can be purchased from the Help Desk for $65.00 and are available in books of 20.
