Health and Safety information for students of Massey University

The University's Health and Safety policy details the responsibility of students to play a vital role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for employees, students and visitors.

It is important to:

  • ensure that no action or inaction causes harm to another person
  • observe all safe work procedures, rules and instructions
  • ensure that all accidents, incidents and unsafe conditions are reported to the appropriate person.

Preparing for an emergency

  • Know emergency procedures for your area (from coloured flip charts and evacuation signage).
  • Know the location of your nearest fire alarm call point.
  • Know where to locate a first aider and first aid kit.

Access to safety data sheets on chemicals, precautions to take and what to do in emergency situations such as a spill, accidental poisoning.

Please carry your student ID card on you at all times.

Protect yourself and others against illness

Good hygiene practices

  • Wash and dry hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds
  • Keep coughs and sneezes covered and put tissues straight into the rubbish bin
  • Social distancing - remain at least one metre away from sick people
  • Keep areas ventilated

If you have been in contact with anybody with flu-like symptoms

  • Attend to your normal activities and follow good hygiene practices
  • Monitor your health regularly
  • If you experience any symptoms during the day, then immediately inform your lecturer/supervisor and isolate yourself from others
