How to check if you can recover files (documents) yourself from your Network Home Drive (H:) and from Shared Drives


To check if you can recover files yourself you first need to find the location of the drive that you need files recovered from. You can check the location of your network home drive here.

To recover files yourself from your home drive it needs to be located at one of the following:

  • alb-homes
  • tur-homes
  • wel-homes

To see where a shared drive is located, check the details that show in Windows Explorer when the shared drive is attached / mapped.

To recover files yourself from a shared drive it needs to be located at one of the following: 

  • alb-storage
  • tur-storage
  • wel-storage

If the location of the drive is not one of those listed please contact the ITS Service Desk and we can try to assist in recovering the lost document(s).

How to recover (documents) files yourself from your Network Home Drive (H:) and from Shared Drives


To recover your files please follow the instructions below (example details are in brackets)

  1. Locate the folder where the document / file used to be. (in this example the file has been deleted from a folder called "Important Folder")

  2. Right-click on the folder name
  3. Click on "Restore previous versions"

  4. Find the previous version of the folder that you want to restore. You can check the contents of the previous version folder by double-clicking on it (in this example a file from the 21-Feb-13 1:30 PM version of the folder needs to be restored).

  5. Drag the folder that you want to restore to somewhere that you can access it (e.g. Desktop).

If no folders are showing or for any reason this doesn't work please contact the ITS Service Desk and we can try to assist in recovering the lost document(s).
