Configuring SSL VPN — Windows

To connect to Massey University SSL VPN you'll need:

  • VPN enabled on your usercode - see Virtual Private Network (VPN) for details
  • An active connection to the internet e.g Broadband, 3G Connection
  • A Massey usercode and password that is active (i.e. you should already be able to log onto the wired Massey network with your usercode and password)

Download/install the SSL VPN client

Windows 10

All Windows 10 installations run 64-bit Windows

Download the SSL VPN Client (64-bit) from https://softarch.massey.ac.nz and then navigate through the installation instructions below.

NOTE: Previous versions of Windows e.g. Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 are not supported.

Installation instructions

  • Double click on Massey SSL VPN ClientSetup_5.4.1.0840_x??.exe icon

  • Click Yes to allow Program name: Massey SSL VPN ClientSetup_5.4.1.0840_x64.exe to make changes to this computer.

  • Click Yes, I have read and accept box and click Next

  • Click Next to default destination folder

  • Click Install

This may take a few minutes to install

  • Click Finish

Connecting to Massey SSL VPN

Connecting to the SSL VPN connecting via the Desktop icon

  • To connect to the Massey SSL VPN Client click on the icon on your desktop 

  • Enter your Massey usercode and password

  • Click Connect

When connecting for the first time you may be prompted with the Security Certificate

  • Click on View Certificate

Ensure that it states:

Issued to: sslvpn.massey.ac.nz and
Issued by: DigCert SHA2 High Assurance Server CA

  • Click OK

  • Click Yes

The Forticlient connection will be displayed on the icon tray showing Connected to Massey SSL VPN

Disconnecting from the SSL VPN connection via the Desktop icon

  • To disconnect click Disconnect

The SSL VPN connection is down bubble is displayed

Please note: There will be a new Network Connection created called fortissl, this is for the Massey SSL VPN configuration do not delete it.

To connect to the Massey SSL VPN Client using the icon bar

  • Right click the FortiClient icon in the icon bar
  • Click on Connect to “Massey SSL VPN”

  • Enter your Massey usercode and password
  • Click Connect

Disconnecting from the SSL VPN connection via the Taskbar icon

To disconnect via the taskbar icon

  • Right click the FortiClient icon in the icon bar 

  • Click on Disconnect “Massey SSL VPN”

The SSL VPN connection is down bubble is displayed

Proxy Settings Configuration

  • Click Start menu in the bottom left and type "Internet Options" then click to open.

  • In "Internet Properties" Window select "Connections" Tab
  • Click "LAN Settings" located at the bottom

  • In "LAN Settings" Window, make sure "Automatically detect settings" is not ticked

  • Then Click OK and Close the Window
