After you import the communications file, and the client and the management server communicate, the notification area icon will appear in the computer's taskbar. The green dot indicates that the client and the management server are in communication with each other and the SEP client is managed. If you can’t see the green dot, it indicates that the SEP client is unmanaged.
The Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh client can be installed silently. This option prevents the regular Installer UI from appearing to the User and the SEP for Mac client will install according to the settings made by the Administrator. The client will install as Managed client without intervention by the User and the User will not be able to change these settings.
To install the managed SEP client to run silently without any user interaction or alerts:
<pathToPackage> is the path to locate the copy of the Symantec Endpoint Protection client package that was exported and copied to the Macintosh.
<MountPoint> is the volume where the package will be installed to.
As the install package requires authentication, use of sudo and an Administrator password is required to use the above Terminal command.
Uninstall current SEP client or third party antivirus software then install managed SEP 12.1
Get a SEP client installation package from above location and run the .exe file. The installation is pretty straight forward and without any user interaction or alerts.
Solution is an uninstall and reinstall, with the reason being that when going from previous to the current version the prior version did not get completely uninstalled.
This problem could be caused by a previous version of SEP has not uninstall properly. You can use the SEP CleanWipe tool to remove previous version of SEP, then run the installation package again. You can get CleanWipe tool from following location: \\massey\disk\software\Antivirus Software\SymantecEndpointProtection\CleanWipe
