The aim of the Unified Communications program of work is to provide staff with one easy-to-use tool that will address all of their communication needs, including:
Staff will be able to use Lync (or Skype for Business) on compatible desktop computers, smart devices and in video conferencing rooms.
Skype for Business will eventually replace both Lync 2010 and Zoom. Skype for Business will no longer be rolled out as a part of this project; it will be rolled out when the University upgrades to Office 2016 (no dates available yet).
Microsoft is still developing a Mac compatible version of Skype for Business (expected to be released by Microsoft in 2016).
Expected delivery dates are subject to change.
Outcome: All staff are moved to a new platform in preparation for the deployment of Skype for Business.
Expected delivery date: 30 November 2015
Outcome: Telephony services remain active in the event of a disaster or failure at the main Turitea site.
Expected delivery date: 30 April 2016
Outcome: Skype for Business can be used in video conferencing rooms and can connect to other video conferencing platforms, such as Zoom.
Expected delivery date: 30 June 2016
Outcome: Staff can self-install the Skype for Business client on compatible desktop computers and smart devices.
