New staff that are leaving friends and family, and have often relocated from other countries, have inevitably greater personal life changes to manage, alongside the need to integrate into a new environment and learn a new role.
To assist managers and their new staff member in identifying what kind of information and support would help the individual and their family settle in as soon as possible, the following list provides helpful items to discuss with the new team member as part of the induction to Massey and their role.
Depending on the individual circumstances, the assistance needed can be complex.
As Massey’s preferred supplier for relocations, Crown can provide customised support for new arrivals, including greeting at the airport, giving an area orientation, and assistance with finding a home and schools. They also provide intercultural training and a web based language training programme. Further information, including Massey pricing for these services is available (for Massey staff only) at:
Should the services offered by Crown be of interest please contact the HR Recruitment Administrator who can work with you to identify the services to be purchased. A quote can then be obtained, as these service are in addition to what can be covered by the centralised relocation budget.
There are various other resources that can be used to assist with settling in New Zealand, for example;
Information on the property market in New Zealand, the cost of cars, day to day living costs, and also information on the health and educations systems can be found at the NZ Immigration Guide website:
Arrival NZ has information on attractions, dining and transport in various areas of New Zealand:
Local city councils can provide a substantial amount of information on local amenities, churches, clubs and local community events and are often a good place to start for local information:
Whether the assistance to a new arrival and their family is provided by Crown Relocations or through their new manager and department, the support given will be integral to how effective and enjoyable the transition to Massey life is, and the individual's overall experience with Massey.
