Requesting Approval to Appoint

The Selection Panel Convenor will complete the Appointment Recommendation Form (available electronically through ImpelHR) and send it to the Senior Leadership Team Member (or to the HoS/I where the Chair is not the HoS/I) for approval. The curriculum vitae for each interviewed applicant and all pre-employment documentation including the referee reports from the current or most recent employer (line manager) for the preferred candidate should be attached to the recommendation.

For fixed-term roles less than 12 months that have not been advertised, Appointment Recommendation Form for Non-advertised Positions and pre-employment declarations are available below:

If not all pre-employment documentation is available at the time the Appointment Recommendation Form is submitted, the PVC/AVC can at their discretion approve a conditional letter of offer, if they are satisfied that sufficient assessment has been made as to the suitability of the preferred candidate.

Each appointment recommendation is considered by the senior leadership team member to ensure that:

  • An appropriate appointment is being recommended
  • Due process has been followed
  • Good employer principles have been complied with
  • Salary and other recommendations are appropriate.

Once the appointment recommendation form has been approved by the Senior Leadership Team Member, the documentation will be sent to HR Services for the production of an offer of employment. HR Advisors are delegated to sign letters of offer on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. Any discussions with the successful candidate over the terms and conditions of employment are between the successful candidate and the School/Institute.

A relocation package is provided for academic staff and senior professional staff who are offered employment of three years and above. Staff employed for a term of three years of less may be offered some relocation assistance. Please view the relocation guidelines to note offerings. For other appointments the applicant will usually be expected to meet most or all of the cost. Details will be specified as a condition of employment at the time an offer of employment is made.

Once a letter of offer is accepted, ImpelHR is updated and this sends an electronic message to the Head of School/Institute notifying them of the acceptance.
