Massey aims to recruit staff of the highest calibre through fair and robust processes. Decisions to recruit should be made in the context of an overall staffing plan, which takes into account longer term academic and/or operational needs and known resignations and retirements.

Employment types at Massey

There are a range of employment types as detailed below:

Permanent employees

Permanent employees are employed on an ongoing basis including part time and full time hours. Advertising is required, and also a formal selection process.

Temporary employees

  • Fixed term employees are appointed for a specific project or perhaps to provide cover for someone who is on parental or extended leave.
  • Casual employees are an on-call or as and when required basis with no commitment to ongoing employment for a period of less than four weeks.

The University shall, from time to time, appoint retiring academic staff and recognised industry experts to honorary research and teaching positions.
