The required period of notice of resignation is specified in your employment agreement with the University. If you wish to provide a shorter or longer period of notice than that specified then you should discuss this with your manager and mutually agree a last day of duty that meets the needs of both you and your organisational unit.
If you wish some of your notice period to include annual leave you need to be aware that this may only be taken if it is specifically approved by your manager.
Notice of resignation must be in writing and clearly state your last day of intended duty with the University. A sample letter is provided below to assist you in formally resigning from the University.
The resignation notice is submitted to your manager who may accept your notice. If your notice is accepted it will be forwarded to HR Services for appropriate administrative action which will include writing to you formally acknowledging your resignation.
If you wish to withdraw your resignation you must lodge a request with your manager who will then consider your request taking into account the functioning of the workplace including progress with any replacement action.
You will be invited to complete an exit questionnaire providing feedback on their experiences working at Massey.
On resignation you are entitled to be paid your salary and allowances up to and including the last day of duty together with any accrued and untaken annual leave calculated up to the last day of duty.
As a manager once you accept a resignation please send this to HR Services to finalise the administrative requirements. If you have any questions, please contact your HR Advisor.
The departure checklist will assist in ensuring that needed administrative actions are taken care of, and also enable a smooth transition for both the leaving employee and the organisational unit. The departure checklist is available at the bottom on this webpage. It will also be sent to you when HR Services acknowledges the resignation.
Should it be necessary to replace the position, it is recommended that obtaining approval to recruit is commenced at this time. Please refer to our recruitment webpages for further information on these processes.
