Massey recognises that it is important to provide staff with tangible recognition of their contribution and increasing impact by progression through the staff member’s salary scale. Staff can advance over time to the top of the scale or, if promoted can move to the scale or the next position on the academic ladder.
An annual academic promotion round is held so that staff can apply to be promoted and have their application considered relative to well defined and published criteria. This section contains on the current promotion round.
Professional staff positions as a group tend to be more diverse than academics. As each individual position tends to reflect a specific purpose, so career progression through promotion to a higher position is generally not applicable. Progression is usually through appointment to another position. Professional staff positions are assigned a position grade with reflects the complexity and contribution of the position. A staff member will progress through the salary scale associated with the grade, as detailed in the professional salary scales. Although promotion within a position is not feasible, it is possible that the nature of the position will evolve over time as additional duties or responsibilities are added. It is therefore appropriate that the grade of the position be reevaluated through the job evaluation process as necessary to recognise such changes.
