Support for new academic staff

The Centres for Teaching and Learning offer two introductory modules (currently being revised) aimed at new academic staff or those who are relatively new to the challenges and expectations of university-level teaching at Massey. 

At least twice a year we send an invitation to new academic staff to join us for an informal coffee so you can meet our teams of teaching consultants and other people new to Massey. 

Another valuable source of support for new staff is our suite of self-directed online courses that you can work your way through at your own conveniece. In addition, we produce a Handbook for Tutors and Casual Staff which introduces the basic requirements and expectations of teaching and learning at Massey University. The latest version of the handbook will be available shortly.

We also advocate that new and less experienced staff invite colleagues or some of our teaching consultants to peer review their paper design and provide constructive and targeted feedback through peer observation of teaching. The booklet Getting the Best out of Teaching and Evaluations: A guide to gathering information about your teaching practice has further advice on gathering information that can help to enhance teaching. You may also wish to join a teaching and learning circle.

Finally, we always welcome meeting new academic staff, so please do not hesitate to contact us by phone/email or simply drop in to your local campus Centre for Teaching and Learning.
