Smart Running is a series of training sessions organised by Massey University Sport and Recreation Centre in conjunction with Will O'Connor, Massey University PhD Student and endurance athlete.
The sessions are designed for intermediate to advanced runners including those with an interest in endurance and trail running. Sessions cover a variety of topics including practical sessions on speed, strength, trail and pacing/perception of effort and informative sessions on training and nutrition.
Cost per session is $25 per person. Remaining sessions are;
Wednesday 12th July 6.30pm-7.30pm Training Principles
Wednesday 19th July 6.30pm-7.30pm Nutrition for Training and Race Day
Will is in the final stages of completing his PhD in Sport Science. His PhD title “Metabolic Flexibility and Endurance Exercise” centres around applying different nutritional strategies to optimise physical performance.
Along with undertaking his PhD research Will also works with several elite athletes and has collaborated with the TriNZ high performance program as well as the Massey University Academy of Sport.
Will competes in numerous events himself and often places in the top echelons of endurance sport in New Zealand including a recent win at the 2017 Buller Marathon.
