Powerade Challeng

The team at Massey University Gym want to see you to the 2018 POWERADE Challenge!

Individual Challenge (7.5km run)

You can run the course, by yourself, anytime between Monday 8th October and Sunday 2nd of December. You have to register on the POWERADE website to get a timing wristband. Once the wristband arrives in the mail, head down to Queens Wharf (outside Fergs Kayaks), give your wristband a swipe and off you go! Full course details are here.

If running by yourself isn’t something that tightens your laces or grabs the velcro, join us for our group run on Friday 19th October (details below).

The Tertiary Challenge

Here is how it will work.

On the day, runners will start in reverse order, with slowest runners starting first. The organisers will group people together in small waves, and send them off with two-five minute gaps between. For example, runners aiming to run 45min, will start at 9:15am. Runners aiming to run 32min will start at 9:28am. We are aiming to have everyone finish at roughly 10:00am.

The winner will be determined by how close they run to their estimated time. For example:

  • Julia estimate it will take her 35min to complete 8km*, and she finishes in 32:30min (2:30min faster than her predicted time).
  • Benjy estimates it will take him 50min to complete 8km* and he finishes in 50:45min (45sec slower than his predicted time).
  • In this case, Benjy was closest to his estimated time, so he is more accurate.

The winning team will be the combined accuracy of the three most accurate runners. Teams will need to include at least:

  • One student (if the majority of your time at your organisation is studying, you are a student)
  • One staff member (if the majority of your time at your organisation is teaching/research/admin, you are staff)

You will need to select your categories when you register before the event. Categories can’t be changed on the day.

Doesn’t make sense? Don’t worry, just run as fast and as accurate as you can. We will do the math later on.
