Become a Massey Guide

MasseyGuide03 Massey Guides are senior students who volunteer throughout orientation and the first few weeks of uni to help you settle in.

To become a Massey Guide, you can apply to join the team. Once you're selected, you'll be trained to provide support to new students as they undertake their first year of study at Massey University.

As a Massey Guide you will:

  • connect with new students who may be studying the same courses as yourself
  • explain how the university runs through sharing your own student life experiences
  • explain the services on offer, which help new students in their first year
  • take students on a tour of the campus and give directions
  • assist Campus Life staff to run a range of on-campus events.

Experience being a Massey Guide

Possibly the biggest attraction is knowing you’ll be working with an awesome group of students who are similar to you; they are friendly, helpful and successful. Being a Massey Guide really is a great experience; it’s full on but loads of fun! Aside from that, there are other perks, which will benefit you far into your professional future:

  • leadership and presentation skills
  • work experience and network opportunities which will strengthen your CV
  • a greater campus and university knowledge
  • learn about and help out at university events such as graduation, open day, photo shoots, seminars and workshops
  • receive a written reference from the university (on request)

Dates you must be available

Massey Guide Training (compulsory): Thursday 16 and Friday 17 February 2017

Orientation in Semester 1: Monday 20 - Sunday 26 February 2017

Orientation in Semester 2: Friday 14 & Saturday 15 July 2017

Training dates are different for each campus. You will be contacted about this.

You will also be asked to assist at other university events throughout the academic year, these are not compulsory.
