Career and Employment Service - specific information for Massey staff
Introduction
Although we cannot offer career advice to individual members of Massey staff, many of the resources on this site may be helpful, and we are also keen to support you in your work with students. Some of the ways in which we might work together are outlined below.
We welcome contact with Massey students and recent Massey graduates no matter what stage they are at in their career thinking. This work can be summarised as follows:
- Self Appraisal - Advice and information is available on factors important in career choice, from options with particular subjects to self-analysis of skills; values; interests and personality. On-line tools are available to assist with the latter, as are reference books; articles; paper-based self-assessment inventories and face-to-face help.
- Researching what’s out there - We assist Massey students and graduates to research career areas of interest to them and facilitate a range of employer presentations; career expos and seminars annually. The latter are publicised on-line through the on-line portal Massey CareerHub.
- Career choice and action - A broad range of career-skills seminars; resources and one-to-one advice and information is available on topics that include CV development; interview skills; and other selection methods. In addition, through Massey CareerHub students and recent graduates have access to a state-of-the-art job vacancy and career information system. This includes details of part-time; vacation; internship and graduate opportunities.
What we can do for you
There are many ways in which we might work together. For example, we can offer you:
- Career Seminars and Employer Events - These can be run for groups of students drawn from particular disciplines. They can be generic career skills seminars - on topics such as CV development or interview skills. Equally, they can be discipline specific - for example, career research for business students and preparation for the planning expo. In some instances, events can bring student groups in contact with employers. This can be through discipline specific career expos or individual employer’s recruitment presentations.
- Recruitment Assistance - If you have a job vacancy that you feel would suit a current student or recent graduate we can help you to publicise it. This will be free of charge and will be through Massey CareerHub.
- Graduate Destinations - For this information see Universities NZ Graduate Outcomes information.
