One   Getting Massey Administration sorted

  • Log into the online learning environment (Stream)
  • Check your enrolled papers are listed and read Stream Guide
  • Ensure you have your Student ID card
  • Sort finances  

Two Getting set up with your subject

  • Make sure you have Study GuideTake note of how paper is set up (what is taught when, what reading(s) is covered, how and where to submit assignments
    • Read and understand paper objectives
    • Read Paper guide/section
  • Record your assessment types, dates and contribution towards final mark (see Getting your study plan sorted)
  • Purchase your textbooks
  • Check class or contact course schedule

Three  Getting to know people

  • Know how your lecturer(s) prefer(s) to be contacted (phone, email, office hours) and note down contact details
  • Post an introduction or comment to Stream site
  • Say hello and introduce yourself to at least one new person in each lecture
  • Volunteer as a class rep for one of your classes, or at least know who your class reps are

Four  Getting your study skills up to date

  • Go on a Library tour and/or learn how to use the Library on-line catalogue
  • Check what study skills and other study support assistance is available
  • Writing your first essay – help is available!   Check out OWLL and other support services.
  • Got papers with a maths component?  Check out Maths First

Five   Getting your study plan sorted

  • Make a week’s study schedule – record class times first, then allocate time for study (both together should total 10-12.5 hours per week, per paper), include other activities and commitments (work, family etc)
  • Make a semester plan/calendar – include all your assessment dates, the mid semester break, exam dates and personal commitments.   Not sure how?  Have a look at our online tutorial.

Six   Getting to know your campus 

  • Make sure you know your way around campus – particularly your classrooms, the computer labs and the study areas.
