With 2,655 undergraduates from all 50 states and over 40 countries, Loyola is a great place to spend your semester or year abroad. Loyola offers students a wide variety of academic programs, ranging from arts and sciences to business to music, all taught in the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person.

Loyola’s faculty consists of highly-qualified experts in their fields who are always available to assist students with their academic endeavours. The campus is ideal for international students who want to be a part of a close-knit university community. The university offers on-campus student accommodation.

Credit system

Students should take 15 semester credits. This should equate to 60 Massey credits.

Course codes

200-level courses at Loyola are usually considered the equivalent of Massey 100-level courses, 300-level courses at Loyola are usually equivalent to Massey 200-level, and 400-level Loyola courses are usually equivalent to Massey 300-level.

Academic calendar

The Fall semester begins in August and ends in December. The Spring semester begins in January and ends in May.

Student life

Through the INBUS program, all exchange students are matched with US buddies to help them adjust, meet the locals and explore the city. Additionally, Loyola hosts a wide variety of organizations for internationally-minded students, such as the International Student Association. You can also join any of the more than 120 student organizations.

Health insurance

Adequate health insurance is required by law for all exchange students going to the USA.  Travel insurance alone will not provide the appropriate coverage. Health insurance plans in the USA are typically more expensive than plans in New Zealand.

Be sure you check the university’s insurance requirements and enrol in the appropriate plan.

Visas

You will need to have a J-1 exchange visitor visa to enter the U.S. You cannot study full-time at the university on either a B-2 tourist visa or the visa waiver program.
